East Hill Flying Club scholarship has helped teach Ithaca teens to fly

December 31, 2014 by Rachel Cera

The East Hill Aviation Foundation, which received 501(c)(3) public charity designation from the IRS this year, presented its inaugural scholarship award at the East Hill Flying Club's annual banquet on Saturday night. Elizabeth Sharp, one of EHFC's younger members, receives a $5,000 scholarship to help her complete training for a private pilot license.

She recently completed her first solo flight just after her 16th birthday.

East Hill Aviation Foundation president Larry Baum, also a member of the East Hill Flying Club, says "Several significant gifts have been received from generous donors wanting to 'pay it forward' to the next generation of aviators." Baum says everyone's welcome to make a year-end tax-deductible gift to support aviation education. Donations may be made online at www.aspiretofly.org, and Baum says donors can contact him at president@aspiretofly.org to discuss property, appreciated securities, bequests and other non-monetary donations.
