Crane delivery to downtown Marriott construction site will cause traffic delays Thursday

The next phase of construction of Downtown Ithaca's new Marriott Hotel requires a large crane at the site, and delivery of the crane, in pieces, will cause traffic delays on Thursday. That's the word from the City of Ithaca. "The Marriott Hotel project is coming along nicely, and they are preparing for the next phase of construction," the City said in a statement.

The Chapter House, the popular Collegetown pub that was mortally wounded in a fire six months ago, is coming down this afternoon, but it will be rebuilt.

Ithaca College's Kostrinsky Field will be the site of this Saturday's benefit softball game, pitting Ithaca's firefighters and police officers in "the inaugural game of a new tradition." 

"Looks like beautiful fall weather for the game tomorrow," says organizer Barry Banfield. "Game on as planned!" Early weather forecasts for this weekend were less optimistic.

As scholarship leaves a gap, Cornell student turns to crowdfunding so he can stay in school

"I worked really hard to get here. I can't leave now!" That's the message that begins Cornell engineering student Jonah Hephzibah's plea for help with an unexpected tuition shortfall on GoFundMe, a crowdfunding web site.

Fifteen hours and 575 donations later, Jonah's GoFundMe page had received the contributions he needed to stay in school.
