It's going to be a bit harder to get up South Hill starting Monday

Starting Monday June 8, leave some extra time to get up the south hill via 96b. 

South Aurora St. will be closed from Prospect St. to Coddington Road (by Rogan's Corner). The work zone will be closed to thru traffic, but crews will try to keep cross streets open for area residents. 

The recommended detour heading south (ie: up the hill) is Coddington Road to Hudson Street to Aurora Street (reverse if heading north).

Animal control officers "found a plastic container of dry cat food mixed with a liquid later identified as ethylene glycol" in a Collegetown parking lot where one cat was found dead, and three others very sick, on Sunday, according to SPCA of Tompkins County executive director Jim Bouderau.

Maybe the t-shirts should say "Ithaca is Sidewalks." The City of Ithaca has a new Sidewalk Improvement District plan that takes sidewalk repair and rebuilding responsibilities out of homeowners' and business owners' hands, while charging set fees to property owners.

No injuries reported in freight train derailment in Marathon

A freight train derailed at about 7:15 this morning in the Cortland County village of Marathon, New York, but there were no reported injuries, according to the New York State Police.

Open house Wednesday for Ellis Hollow Road reconstruction phase 2

There's an open house Wednesday for area residents who'd like to discuss phase two of the Ellis Hollow Road reconstruction project with municipal leaders. The meeting is from 6-7pm on May 20th at the Ellis Hollow Community Center on Genung Road.

The first phase of the project, completed in 2011, rebuilt a 1.5 mile length of Ellis Hollow Road from Thomas Road west almost as far as Genung Road. The second phase will rebuild from there almost as far west as Dodge Road, another 1.1 miles.
