Wallace edges Peacock for Ithaca city judge nomination; Teachout falls despite strong CNY showing

Unofficial results from the Tompkins County Board of Elections show that Rick Wallace has narrowly defeated interim City Court Judge Seth Peacock for the Democratic nomination to stand in this November's general election. Wallace won with 745 votes to Peacock's 675, with Kristine Shaw trailing with 381 votes.

No injuries in Newfield blaze that shut down Route 13 for two hours Saturday

Newfield fire officials say an electrical short may be responsible for an equipment fire at the Casella waste management facility on Route 13 south of Ithaca Saturday afternoon. Multiple fire departments responded to put out the blaze, which forced officials to close Route 13 in both directions.

Several blocks on Ithaca's southside will be transformed tomorrow from thoroughfare to street fair. The sixth "Streets Alive" event will close parts of Plain Street, West Clinton Street, and Wood Street to drivers from 1-5pm on Sunday, September 7th.

Ellis Hollow Fair, postponed to Sunday, is in its seventh decade

It's not the oldest fair in the area, not by a long shot, but the Ellis Hollow Country Fair has a lot of things going for it. The annual event, scheduled for Saturday afternoon but postponed to Sunday due to a stormy forecast, has hay rides, a dunking booth, music, games, face painting, and food and crafts vendors, and perhaps best of all, admission is free.

Students and staff members at Ithaca High School say a lockdown has lifted early this afternoon following a three-hour search of the campus. No weapon was found in the search. Ithaca City School District officials say students' schedules returned to normal at about 12:45pm.
